Welcome to Phonomancer™: A Game of Transformation

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for The Anne Frank Working. This project is part of a bold experiment that blends science fiction, participatory theater, and spiritual exploration. By joining this production, you will be stepping into a unique role—not just as an actor, but as a co-creator in an immersive experience designed to explore themes of grief, atonement, and transcendence.

What You Need to Know

  1. This is an Acting Role—But Also a Game of Make-Believe

    • While on the clock, we ask you to pretend Phonomancer™ is real. You are not required to believe in the Phonomancer™ system, but we need you to behave as if you do. This means taking the rituals, symbols, and practices seriously while in character. Imagine you are a devotee of a powerful, transformative practice and act accordingly.

  2. The Setting: A Sci-Fi Discotheque of the 23rd Century

    • The performance takes place in a futuristic discotheque where six advanced Phonomancers guide over 100 participants through a transformational ceremony. Participants include "Cadets," "Rhythm Phonomancers," and "Space Guards" monitoring the space. As an actor, you may be called to portray one of these roles.

  3. Emotional Depth is Key

    • The Anne Frank Working is emotionally intense. It centers on themes of grief, collective trauma, and catharsis. We need performers who can convey reverence, presence, and vulnerability in their roles. The power of this ritual depends on your ability to commit fully to the emotional beats.

  4. Improvisation Will Be Crucial

    • While parts of the performance will be scripted, we are counting on select actors to improvise authentically in character—particularly during moments where participants are sharing their emotional responses. We will train you in Phonomantic principles so you can respond in ways that feel organic to the narrative and the ritual.

  5. This is Not a Cult

    • Transparency is vital to this project. While you will be asked to "act as if" Phonomancer™ is real, we are completely open about the fact that this is participatory theater and a creative experiment. Your involvement does not require personal belief—only a willingness to engage with sincerity and focus.

This project aims to explore the power of shared belief and participatory ritual. By stepping fully into your role, you help us demonstrate how powerful these experiences can be. In doing so, you may find that what started as make-believe has a surprising impact on your own perspective and growth. Some actors may find themselves drawn to the deeper teachings of Phonomancer™—but that is entirely your choice.

Skillfully Wielding Emotion as a Weapon of Transformation

The (very rare) occasions when someone is honestly interested in what I'm up to provide an invaluable opportunity for me to articulate my thoughts. As they say, you don't understand anything until you can explain it to someone else. That ability improves with practice. From Reddit: "I am curious about this heightened sense of emotionality.
